Have you ever watched “The Voice” show?
Initially it is a Dutch program, now internationally performed. Its format
consists of a blind audition of voices by 4 coaches (who are famous singers
themselves), turning their back to the new singers. The new contestant would
sing. If a coach likes the voice, he/she would turn to see the singer as a sign
that he/she wants this singer on his/her team. If more than one coach turns, it
is up to the singer to choose the coach. The main idea is to evaluate the
singer on the voice only, before seeing the person or knowing its name, sex or
origin. The coach then would train his/her team to compete with the others.
I was thinking, what if each one of us imitates
this show, but by being the coach and the singer, sitting in a room, shutting
all other distractions, shutting off the lights, and listen to nothing but your
inner voice…give it few minutes, first for the voice to realize that it got a
chance to surface… once it starts talking, be patient, let it talk and talk and
talk…if needs be, let it repeat itself, decipher it, allow it to say something
different than things you are used to hear or familiar with.
What kind of voice do you think you
would find? Shaking? Shy? Weird? New? Tired? Wondering? Strong? Courageous?
Familiar?
How would you evaluate it? Would you
turn to see it? Would you listen to what it is saying? Would you accept it? Would
you help it and coach it? Or you would keep turning your back to it, ignoring
what it is saying?
You know, the only difference between
your show and “The Voice” is that in the latter, the coaches have more than one
voice to choose from hence more than one chance to find the winner…whereas in
your case, if you choose to ignore your voice, there will be no show…
Howard Thurman, an American author,
said: “There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the
sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have.
And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the
ends of strings that somebody else pulls.”
Listen to your inner voice, you might
be the winner…
